Hi,
Does anyone have banjo tab for Winnsborough Cotton Mill Blues by the Hillmen. Really cool banjo stuff and vocals/lyrics going on.

Keith, I didn’t tab the whole thing, but I did tab out the banjo break, which starts at 1:32. The album it comes from, called The Hillmen, was recorded in 1963/64, but was not released until 1969. It was country rock legend Chris Hillman’s first actual commercial recording effort. The band members were Hillman on mandolin. Don Parlmey on banjo, Vern Gosdin on guitar, and Rex Gosdin on bass. Hillman, of course, would go on to co-found The Byrds and later The Flying Burrito Brothers. Parmley, who did all the studio banjo work for the Beverly Hillbillies, other than the opening theme, would later found the Bluegrass Cardinals.
Most of Parmley’s break is pretty standard Scruggs’ style bluegrass picking, but at the end of the break there are four measures of what is essentially melodic style. Now, Bill Keith’s first version of Devil’s Dream was released in September, 1963, on a Prestige/Folklore LP called Livin’ On The Mountain, just months before The Hillmen LP was recorded, so it makes one wonder whether Parmley got the idea from Keith, either from the record or in person, or came up with it on his own.
The song was originally written by Pete Seeger.
Nice tab, Don.
Maybe Don heard this album,it came out a year or so before Keith and Rooney's.

(p.s. a few years ago David Parmley and Continental Divide were billed at Blueberry Fstvl here in Alberta, but they had to rush home early because David got word that his Dad, Don, had passed away)

I had forgot about that record, Chuck, you could be right! I was going to mention that Don had passed back in 2016, but somehow while putting together the post, it slipped my mind.
