I watched a wonderful video on YouTube from the Augusta Heritage Center (made by Gerry Milnes) featuring Bernard Cyrus. I don't believe I have heard the tune he plays at the end of the video, but I sure would like to know the name, maybe look it up and try to learn it. youtube.com/watch?v=Y19yzGrpnvI
Does anyone know?

Very nice, I don't know the name, sorry. But I seem to recognize parts of it. If it pops into my head, I'll write.

Maybe you could try contacting Gerry Milnes through the Augusta Heritage Center at augustaheritagecenter@dewv.edu.  As a musician himself -- and the filmmaker -- he's as likely as anybody to know.

I emailed Gerry and here's his response.

Just listened, without digging out the video field recordings, I’m pretty sure it’s “Orphan Girl.”

Thanks, carlb ! Do we have a new candidate for Tune of the Week, perhaps?

Thanks for trying to help. (I’ve been away from wifi and cell service until today) Orphan Children is at about 28 minutes in. His version is really pretty; I like it. The tune I'm talking about is at the very end. Maybe it is "orphan girl?" I will have to research.

Lovely playing. Looks and sometimes even sounds like he's playing clawhammer (rapping, frailing) style, but it's all thumb-lead two-finger-- except he's using 3 fingers, WITH FINGERPICKS! Strong, thoughtful, and subtly understated music, kind of like the man himself. I like what he does with the lap dulcimer, too.
