Is it called something else or just a muted chime when playing a lick or musical phrase with a finger in the chime position but that isn’t lifted off to get that ringing chime sound (due to multiple notes needing to be played)? I think what I’m talking about occurs in Bugle Call Rag.

I usually hover my ring finger over the 1-4 strings, almost touching but not quite. That way, when you pick each string, it will make a chime sound. I very seldom get a muted chime. Don't know the mechanics of it, but I think when you pick the string it moves up just enough to barely touch your finger and thus make the chime sound as it comes back down (I could be wrong in my thinking and if I am, I'm sure someone will correct me).

I usually lift my finger because it's needed to play the next note.
