Howdy All,
Alan has been one of my favorite melodic banjo players for quite a long time now. He has a natural ear for melody with the 5string banjo and a wonderful way of interpreting melody every time he plays a tune.
Just so happens that Alan attended Oklahoma University and I also went there for a year to study Journalism but changed my Major to Music Composition and ended up in NYC at NYU instead...
Several years ago Alan conducted a banjo workshop in NYC and I missed it because I didn't know about it. I'll catch the next time for sure...
I just ordered "Four Leaf Clover" just for fun by Pay Pal and it got to me pronto and a quick jot back from Alan...Elegant Man, Elegant player...Jack p.s. I think Alan is my only individual tab purchase ever and it was perfectly tabbed out.

Totally agree about Alan. The first Country Gazette album came out the year I started learning banjo. He instantly became one of my top three influences, the first two being Ben Eldridge (who I heard every week the summer of '72 at the Red Fox Inn in Bethesda) and Doug Dillard (as I listened to Back Porch Bluegrass, Live Almost and a taped copy of The Banjo Album over and over.
If the tab you purchased of Four Leaf Clover is in C tuning, then it's probably the same arrangement as in Alan's Great American Banjo Songbook (co-authored with Beth Mead-Sullivan). 70 20th century standards and show tunes from the Great American Songbook. A lot of them seem to be in original keys, so there's some great variety in sounds. Lots of melody in not necessarily melodic style.
Yes, it is Ken. Same song. I didn't care about the LP or book but the song was a lot of fun to hear Alan play. And of course you are correct and up to date on everything--HA!, not every song is melodic....Jack

You could easily buy it from Alan, he makes it very easy to do so...Jack p.s. your version in G is very nice Chuck and cleanly done as always...J
