Wondering if anyone knows who the maker might be on this instrument?
Looks like a nice Gretsch tenor. (Have you looked inside the pot for numbers or stamps ?)
I agree, most likely Gretsch. Aftermarket metal resonator; it should spin off to reveal the usual Gretsch neck attachment and maybe a serial number (although Gretsch serial numbers are not always very good for indicating year of manufacture) and maybe some other useful information.

Gretsch is the first thing that comes to my mind, fitted with an aftermarket spin on Elton resonator.
Oh, I see George already answered this post. He, and John Hoft, are the Gretsch experts on here.
I would never call myself a Gretsch expert.

I don't know about that, George. I have noticed over the years that some people seem to have a lot of knowledge about certain brands. Whenever I see a post about a Gretsch banjo I always hope that you or John Hoft will chime in. I would trust your judgement about Gretsch banjos without a lot of question, just like I used to look forward to seeing Polle Flaunoe contribute to posts about Bacon banjos.

If you really need Gretsch information, Jon Hoft is the true expert. He has ads, catalogs, and more knowledge of these banjos an can even interpret Gretsch's convoluted serial numbering. Any knowledge I might offer was most likely gleaned from John's posts.
