Hey folks - first time poster here and looking forward to being a member. Recently started the 4th quarter (turned 60 a couple months back) and decided to pull the trigger on trying an instrument I've been interested in for decades. I've played acoustic guitar for years and have developed my finger style chops to maybe an intermediate level. I've gotten familiar with alternate tunings as well so the open G change is going fine. Despite picks still feeling like kitchen appliances hanging off my fingers tips, I'm finding techniques such as slides, pinches, hammer-ons etc relatively easy to pick up. Pull-offs are a bit more challenging in that most every instructional video I've seen so far the instructor tends to flick up with his finger rather than pull down. While I'm still very much at the point of developing good vs bad habits, is there a benefit into trying to get comfortable and force the 'flick up' method? Seems muscle memory is pushing me toward the pull-down technique and I'm finding I tend to bend the note out of tune a bit when doing so. Also considering changing to a heavier gauge set of strings thinking that might help. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Ken
