Hi - I'm trying to casually get into fixing/modifying/building instruments.

I have been given lots of great advice here, and found similarly excellent ideas directed at others. A common suggestion is to try a kit.

I'm looking for a summer project. Once I kick covid, I'm going to hit some junk shops/yard sales and look for broken instruments to experiment on.

I also started google-researching kits for a variety of instruments. I'm tempted by a StewMac ukulele kit, or a Cedar Creek dulcimer kit.

Does anyone have any experience with a low-end dulcimer kit? I found a lot of brands, but it was tricky to figure out the prices. Some were listed as installments, so I mistook them for cheaper. Others were listed in cryptocurrency - no interest there. These look like a manageable price - but McGruff told me that means there's a catch.

TIA
