Hello all. Just a quick question. I ordered a set of Keith d tuners for my 2nd and 3rd strings. I've heard via past forums that they are just a tad taller/longer than most tuning pegs. Is this true? I've only got about 1/4 inch of play with my current pegs before they would make contact with the bottom of my case. Is it possible I won't have enough room in the case around the headstock for the new pegs?
If you have a fourth of an inch to spare I don't think the tuners would be that much longer than a regular peg. I have read a lot about these in the past and don't remember ever seeing that being an issue with them. Most of the posts have to do with getting them correctly set once installed.

I think the more serious problem is case makers just didn't make the neck support correctly in "the old days". Liftons, Harptones, etc. often let the 2/3 string pegs rub on the bottom of the case. Many a banjo picker has "built up" the spot that cradles the neck, to get the tuners off the bottom of the case. You can do the same if you want to.
With "modern" cases I no longer see pegs riding on the bottom of the case. Even with some of the bargain models like the Musicians Friend special. Case makers appear to have figure it out. It's 100% the height of the cradle points under the neck.
None of my Keith 2/3 pegs rub on the bottom of my modern cases. A used case I bought about 1980 had low cradles, and my Keith pegs rubber. I didn't want my neck to bow fowared, so I built up the cradle with foam rubber and a cloth pad.
