Can anyone tell me when the GoldStar banjos started being made with the white binding and stopped being made with the yellowed binding found on more of the vintage banjos? I have what I believe is a GoldStar resonator with yellow binding and while I am certain it is not the original to my 81 gf 100 I am trying to find out if there's a good probability it's at least an 80's reso. It does have the concentric rings on the back which are also yellowed and has the the black ring running through the center of the rings. Also the inside is not blackened like some Asians are but stained in a dull reddish color like GoldStars are known to be. Photo is on my homepage as i couldn't figure out how to post it right here.

Hi Brent,
Tokai has never adopted a yellow binding. They were trying to recreate a new pre-war banjo instead of an old-looking pre-war banjo. However, because they were painted with polyurethane instead of lacquer, there are some that have turned yellowish as a whole. There is such a banjo in my collection. You can see it only in the binding part.

Hi Toshi, That explains why I see so many older GoldStars with both cream colored and yellowed binding on the same banjo. Every little tidbit of information about the old GoldStars is very interesting to me. Thank you.
