Yep. I have been on the five year plan for about 20 years. Always the same pathology etc. removed a couple tiny polyps and see you again in in five. An unpleasant couple of days, and a few more of anxiety.
Wishing to ou the best of results.

I always thought one of the bowel preps (so named because the loss of electrolytes caused by the induced diarrhea were also replaced by the drink) was not-so-aptly named: “Go Lytely.”

I go every year. Did a routine poop test & went in for colonoscopy & they found a small spot. I had surgery to remove it & was back to work in 6 weeks.

I went to a big class with at least 50 people in my age bracket before where they filled you in on everything. They even had the pamphlets & an overhead projector!

That bilge water you have to drink is the worst part. The instructions told me to drink half the gal. at one time & the other half hours later. That salty, fake fruit? drink tasted so bad I drank it all in one go! get it? ONE GO!

Drink lots of water, energy drinks, clear broth or tea. Nothing red or purple.

When you get there go into robot mode. Do everything they tell you. Don't worry. they've seen & heard it all.

I saw somewhere that they put you under in the States. They actually use Fentanyl here. I didn't feel the drug but i was talking & joking with the Dr. & his assistant. They have a screen where you can watch. It's pretty amazing!

The assistant asked me a bunch of questions & the Doctor about how he would rate my purge. The first time when I went all in on the Joy Juice he said excellent. I could see it was on the screen. The last 2 times when I went by the instructions he said fair. Next time it's back to my old routine.

You can't eat certain foods like nuts or seeds days before your procedure, they'll give you a list.

The second time was to check after a year to see if they got it all . They did! I was way early for my appointment & there was a cancelation so I moved up in line. There was a mix up with the number to get them to call for my wife to pick me up.  I was content to patiently wait & look out the window. It felt good to be all cleaned out!

It pays to get checked! I remember a poster at a Drs. office . It was about prostate pain. It said.. Don't die of embarrassment!

You got this Doug!

Mine is in two weeks. This is number 5. They don’t get any more fun but the anxiety is significantly lower….

Thanks for the laughs.

I’ve been on the five year plan for about 30 years. They only found a single polyp once and it was benign thankfully. However, my mother died of colon cancer after refusing colonoscopies and ignoring symptoms. Also, my dad had 1/3 of his colon removed after they found cancer. He lived another 20 years until he died of something unrelated.

All this suggested a possible genetic propensity for my and my siblings. I got a full genetic work up as part of my ongoing treatment for prostate cancer and had no genetic aberrations whatsoever.

"Go like an upside down volcano." There, I fixed it for them.

Unless you've been diagnosed with some intestinal problems, you should ask your doctor if you could use Cologuard and that doesn't cause any problems at all, just go in a little receptible and send it off. No muss, no fuss, no nasty tasting liquid and no diarrhea.

When I was in my 20s we used to tease the old guys at work when they had to take a day off for their "procedure."

The healthcare at the chemical company was free, but also mandatory, so we all used the same doctor.

When the old guy came back to work, we were sure to have flowers and a sentimental card from Dr. Lance.

I did the Cologuard, and would love to just mess with the UPS guy and smear some Hershey's syrup on the sides of the box.  laugh  Although, I'm sure my box would just be left there on the front step, so that wouldn't help much.

Nobody has said it better than Dave Barry

I’ve had 3 and am probably due for the next one soon. The prep keeps changing and gets easier every time. Here they’re using Demerol for the procedure and I can see why this is a controlled substance. Coming out of that is like having the best nap ever and no hangover.

My wife just went through one a few weeks ago. The prep protocol changed. She was told Mira-Lax and a suppository? Then she got a infection after the procedure was it related? They did stool sample for C.diff came back negative. She was a sick sick puppy for a while. Had to take her to the ER on a Saturday. Pump her full of fluids to counter the puking and pooping and antibiotics I never heard about. Bladder infection as well.

Had a colonoscopy in December. I wasn’t wild about trying to gag down the prep—in fact I was really stressed about it. But, to my surprise, the Suprep wasn’t bad at all. The secret was sucking on a lime wedge after drinking it.

My timing was good. I’m glad I didn’t put it off. And I will be eager to recheck in three years, as suggested.

I lost a good music friend to colon cancer some years ago and that was one too many.

Get it done, folks. I ignored advice for 10 years, then finally got one last year and ended up getting an ugly cancerous polyp removed surgically,,  some small cancer spots detected outside my colon in a couple lymph nodes so I went on chemo for 6 months. I’ve been done the chemo now for 5 weeks , latest scan and blood tests are good. I regret not doing a colonoscopy years ago , but no use crying over spilled milk.

Every 3 years for me. Always have polyps, but no cancer so far. Family history (grandfather) got me started in my early 50s.

This https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-task-force-colonoscopies-endoscopies-waitlists-1.6325521 gives some insight re. Manitoba's protocol.  My non-professional [skeptical?] take is that it was primarily a PR maneuver by our "provincial surgery backlog task force," but I've been wrong before*.

For me they've been pretty ho-hum other than the "runs" the evening prior; watching on a monitor is kinda neat.

* =In fact I can recall two occasions ..... once when I was 17 and once just a couple of years ago.  cheeky

Dave Barry is one of the funniest human beings alive. This was the first time I'd seen this article and I laughed until I cried and tears ran don my leg.
