For those unaware, those banjos have a donut tone ring similar to, but different than, a Dobson donut ring.

Are you sure about that? I would expect a tone ring like what is on the higher-end models (Nite Hawk, Melody King, etc). Attached is a picture of the construction.
Slingerland only used the "donut" ring for a few years in the mid-late '20s on their high-end banjos. Early ones had a more conventional tone ring, then they changed to the donut, and then back to a conventional ring again in the '30s - so you never know what you'll get until you look inside.
