Bat Out of Hell was one of the first albums I ever saw; I didn't hear it until much later. My dad kept the CD in his vehicle; I remember being shocked (I was probably somewhere between 3 and 5) that my dad would own anything with the word "Hell" in the title. When I finally listened to the record I was shocked to discover it wasn't heavy metal.
The bartender at the pub I used to cook at was of an age with my dad and used to get sauced and play Meat Loaf back to back on the jukebox. He said "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" was his and his wife's song ("now we're praying for the end of time to hurry up and arrive").
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Fan Club posted a nice tribute to him as well.
RIP Meat Loaf. Great voice, great performer.
