I have a 100 + year old New Windsor patent zither banjo that had a mic stand drop on the drum which caused the back to pop loose. I live in Alaska and want to fix it myself. I am just fishing for pointers as I need to use a hide glue and would like to restore it to its previous state. I played it live quite a bit and it sounded and played great. Hoping to avoid hidden pitfalls in fixing it myself. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Fluxie, Yes I will upload some photos. Gonna have to search for the old ones or just take new ones. I appreciate your input.

I will have to take photos of the damage. Here is a photo of it before damage.
My Dad got it in a pawn shop in Dublin back in 1952 and it sat in our attic until I found it. It played flawlessly.

Did the back come right off? or just a section?

You will need lots of clamps, make sure you protect the banjo from the clamps with cauls if needed. Do a dry run first (clamp everything to make sure the back lines up with the sides) If it looks good, take the clamps off and glue it, put the clamps back on the same way you did the dry run. Wipe off the squeeze out glue with a warm damp cotton cloth. .. and leave it clamped for 24 hrs...

You are done...

Staceyz, The back popped about half way. I looked at it and it looks like the glue did the job and no damage was done other than the glue popping. The mic stand fell as someone was looking at the banjo and the stand bounced off the drum splitting the drum and blowing out the back.

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it! I will post pics.
