I was asked earlier this evening by Sherry Stelling to relay this message to the BHO.

Geoff Stelling has decided to NOT retire at the end of this year and Stelling Banjo Works will NOT be closing down. They will continue to build banjos in 2022 and optimistically beyond.

That is all I was told, and all that I know.

IMO this is wonderful news.

Hopefully now the absurd prices being asked for used Stelling banjos will start to come down.

This is awesome news! Maybe now used Stellings will become somewhat affordable again. I can't believe how the prices have shot up over the last 6 months.

That's good news. The Stelling that I ordered should be ready sometime this month.

This is terrible news… but only for those of us thinking about selling a Stelling banjo. Even at that, it is news I am very happy to hear!

The used Stelling market is so confusing to me. I sold an '81 sunflower for $2500 a couple years ago. It sat on the market for nearly a year, and I eventually had to offer free shipping and about $150 in accessories to make the sale. In some forum posts here, everyone agreed that it was a great price for a great banjo, but nonetheless I only had a couple bites in nearly a year of listing. But then at the same time, it seems like the asking prices you see on them are much higher than that, and they're not particularly common when compared to Gibson or Deering. I've seen basically the same banjos range from $2000 all the way up to $5000. I just can't figure it out.

Like everything else, it's a matter of supply and demand.  Right now, it's pretty hard to find used Stellings at all.  So they command a premium.  This news is sure to drop prices on the used market.  It is great news, but it unless Geoff has found someone who wants to take over his business.  Someone he is going to train up over the next couple of years, I fear it will only be a temporary reprieve.
