I’m not sure if I’ve ever shared this, but Paul Roberts reminded me of it the other day (thank you for your kind words, Paul!), and I thought I’d go ahead and do so.

This is one of the few I’ve done that was recorded by a professional (though just for fun of course :-)).

I played banjo and sang, friend Ryan Harlin recorded/mixed and played the guitar for it.

Nice picking. I had no idea that song had words.

Thanks!  Yeah, honestly I think lyrics are a relatively recent addition- sometime in the 1900s, though I'm not sure gets the credit for it. I've heard maybe Mike Cross?  Back in the 80s- though I don't know that for certain.

I didn’t know there were words to it either. Great job!

It's intriguing how a seemingly laid-back delivery can bring to light such a high level of musicianship.

Thank you guys for your kind words!  I do enjoy the tune at this sort of pace, and singing along with it kind of forces you to take it at a more moderate pace (true for me at least, lol). I find many of the tunes we like to play at breakneck speed sound really nice when slowed down a bit.

Man, Adam, that was beautiful! We have that tune on our regular line up, and the clawhammer part you played is really pretty.

Good job. How did you make YouTube play this? Most of them won't open for me, or else the volume is almost zero. Even the Online Tuner is down to a whisper, since Adobe dumped its Flash player. But your post opens like it's supposed to and sounds great.

Thanks Al, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@exvagabond Hmm, I haven't had this issue, but all I did was use the video editor in windows, made a project there, added that picture as the main one and created a slideshow basically for the lyrics, and added the music track as the background. Then I exported it as a video, and uploaded that to YouTube. I've done that as recently as last week with clips from my new tackhead minstrel banjo build, and it seemed to work just fine.

Hope that helps!

That was a wonderful performance. The banjo and guitar picking, the singing, it was all super tight but mellow as h**l, just like a good shot of whiskey. That reminds me, it's time for my nightcap right now!
