Hi!

I recently bit the bullet and grabbed a second-hand Banjo nearby, but can find little to no information on it.
A quick browse shows the general reception of Hondo to be pretty low, but I can't find anything referencing this particular model.
The only reference I can find is a Hondo II that is currently for sale on Reverb, this one appears to have had the electronics removed from the exact location as mine, making me suspect it is original (as well as the E in the model). Not that it appears to be exceptionally wired ha.

I can't play, yet, so can't really comment on its quality, its seen better days, don't think it's been played in a while and the electronics work but are a bit static-y.

Is there anything I should look out for or check before I get carried away?

Thanks for the read anyway and cheers!

You are correct these are low end, Asian mass produced banjos and zero collectible value and little value as a player. But enjoy it and play it abd get carried away. Banjos rule even if they aren't valuable.

Made in Korea I suspect. My first banjo was one of these. I had some fun with it, but the fifth string tuner broke. It's probably just a friction tuner on that string. I replaced this with a geared tuner, discovered clawhammer and did my best to learn (still learning of course - who isn't?) and then sold it.
They are definitely lower quality, but I enjoyed mine, so I hope you do yours.
For my hands, and as a learner, and now I can play a bit more, just for my taste - the neck is really quite narrow at the nut. So strings are close together. Have fun with it!

I had a Hondo about forty years ago. I learned to play on it and enjoyed it. I never had any problems with it.

What a beautiful neck, I would love to learn on a banjo like that.

Hello Bill, glad to see you after the pandemic.

That ought to be plenty loud enough without plugging it in!

Not what I'd call "low-end" at all. A good intermediate grade banjo for sure.
I doubt you could find a new one that was clearly better for under $1000 (US)
