As a good friend of Barry’s, maker of Kratzer and Bulldog instruments, I’m sad to say he passed away Saturday in the hospital from heart issues. He was a close friend and made us several great instruments. He will certainly be missed!

I didn't know Barry but often saw his instruments for sale on the Mandolin Cafe. He lived fairly close, around Athens, Ga., I think, and I was always impressed with his mandolins that always seemed to be reasonably priced. I thought he was fairly young. I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

He lived in Savannah. I believe he was 67.

He was a little older than I thought and for some reason I thought he lived near Athens.  I do remember that he may have learned or had worked for Randy Wood at one time, so Savannah would make sense.

He did learn from Randy Wood. Him and Randy (and us) only live about 5 miles apart.

Very sad to learn of this. I believe he was a retired military man and former East Coast resident (NYC outer boroughs if I recall correctly) who moved to the South after finding a new metier in bluegrass instrument lutherie.
