I have this ring in the shop and planning on putting it in a banjo that I will be selling.
It is stamped Gibson USA in inside face and has a number beside it RK 1119.
I know the RK stands for Richard Kulesh.
Can anyone tell me what years that Gibson used this ring in their banjos?
It weighs 3 lbs 4 ounces.
Thanks in advance for anything you guys can share.

Hey Don - Gibson used these rings from about the start of the Greg Rich era, I think nearly up until they quit making banjos. On occasion they did use some other rings, (some you have heard called the mystery ring maybe?) Also the very early rings, which came from Stew Mac, and many of those were Steve Ryan made tone rings. In addition to those, FQMS also supplied Gibson with some tone rings, namely the rings used in the style 75 Crowe banjos, and the style 6; I have been told those rings were actually FQMS house rings, which they also sold direct and were called "thunderbolt" rings. But I stray from the topic - Yes, the Gibson USA branded rings were Kulesh, and were used from the late 80's up until about 2010.

That is an early ring. Probably used about 1989 to 90. #1287 was used in 1991.

Hi Don
I show a Kulesh ring  #K-1119 in an RB-3; 3-9003-40 assembled 3/13/1990. This series of numbers appears randomly in 1989 and 1990.  I do not know if Richard duplicated numbers in later years.

Thanks to everyone above for your fine information!
Now I have a provenance of this ring to share with my potential customer.
