Hey all,

I've gotten some good recommendations for luthiers to work on my prewar TB-6 conversion neck, but unfortunately, none are close to my area at all (Chicago) and I am just really hesitant to ship such an expensive instrument.

I am not at all opposed to taking a long drive, but was hoping I could keep that drive shorter than maybe 8-ish hours?

The specific work I would like done is: I believe the neck holes need to be plugged and re-drilled due to the neck set and very high action on the banjo. I've tried all the typical adjustments and other than using a 1/2in bridge, which I've yet to find one that has a good sound to my ear, I think having the holes plugged and re-drilled is what needs to be done and the best option for me. (I understand a shim is also an option, but I would prefer a more permanent solution).

Also, I would like to replace the current tuners with a set of the high ratio Rickard tuners.

I've gotten recommendations for several great luthiers in Warren Yates, Tim Davis, etc., but they are all very far from me.

I have heard great things about Mitch Meador and have heard some of his banjos which sound really great. Wondering if anyone has had neck work done by Mr. Meador.

Generally looking for any recommendations for neck work for my '29 TB-6 Conversion. This banjo is my baby and I am not so concerned about the price. I am looking for very quality work and if possible, I would prefer to drive the instrument rather than ship. If there are any really good luthiers in the midwest are (or close to it), i would really appreciate the recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

I really like Companion Banjos in Ann Arbor.  They've done top notch work on a banjo of mine, very reasonable and Chris is the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.
