I was not familiar with this version of Surefire, having heard an earlier (original?) version on the Bear Family collection. Since I did not have this one, it was simple to find. Nice job!

I believe the original is from the Osborne Brothers "Number 1" album. Pretty similar. Both great!

It was also on the 1973 bluegrass express album! Which would make it the original

Nice! I had it on the Bluegrass Express album. Sonny wrote in his weeklyQ&A column that Bobby wrote that tune.

Interesting! I have the version on the Bear Family collection of 1956-1968. It doesn't have quite as much in the way of syncopated phrasing as the version you are teaching, and the catchy "slide licks" either.
