Valerie Cagle, from Yorktown, Virginia, a softball player of the USA Junior Nation team had a pretty good day at the plate at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games being held now in Colombia. In the second inning Valerie hit a two-run homer. Later in that same inning she came to the plate again and hit a grand slam for six RBIs in the inning. But wait, later in that same inning again, she came to bat again with the bases loaded ........ yep, another grand slam for three homers and 10 RBIs in one inning. USA hung 29 runs on Columbia in the second inning. The game went the minimum innings (5) because of the "mercy rule".

By the way, Valerie was also the winning pitcher. In two games she has given up just 3 hits and struck out 20 batters. Earned run average .....0.00.

She will be a sophomore at Clemson University (my Alma Mater), so I will get to see her play a bunch next year!

"Pretty good" indeed.  It sounds like ^^ could be an April 1st. post.   I'd like to see more amateur sports being broadcast, but I haven't put any $ where my mouth is, so.... ??   I get a bit of [ladies] fastball on the BIg 10 network.

That reminds me of youth league baseball days, where one 12-yr old is head and shoulders above the other players, pitches blazing fastballs and hits most of the home runs, too.

Three home runs and the winning pitcher?

I suspect that she's one of Babe Ruth's descendents.  There's no telling how many children he fathered . . .

That's funny!

I watched her quite a bit last year and she led the Clemson team in hitting and pitching.  When the coach offered her a scholarship, I think she was planning on going to a smaller school, but he was at a game or practice when he kept hearing a ball hit the glove of the catcher and he said it just sounded different.  Her velocity just made the glove pop.  She is an average sized girl, but packs a lot of power in her bat and hits with power to all fields.  She was named a freshman All-American and suspect that she will be an All-American this coming season.

Well the USA just won the gold medal and Valerie pitched a no hitter. I would say that she had a pretty good week!
