I always liked the naming of those early cartridges. A 25 caliber lead bullet pushed by 20 grains Black Powder. Especially like the sound of "forty-four forty".
I don't know of any modern centerfire cartridges with similar ballistics to that 25-20 that can be fired in both rifle or revolver. I suppose that rimfire has taken over that job.

I picked out my first center-fire rifle in .30-'06. Nice Remington 700 BDL.
Part was that the greatest variety of bullet weights in CDN factory ammo was in .30-'06.
50+ years later, that's still what I want to shoot. Maybe a SAKO 85.

Best hand loaders are war vets in chairs. They get the academic challenge of building loads.
I try not to let them down and shoot straight.

I sent an email to the Old Western Scrounger asking about .257 Roberts ammo.
I also asked if he has any 25-20 Win ammo or brass.
I’ll let you know what the response is.

I just checked my shop and have a bag of 25-20 brass from a project that I worked on a few years ago.
Let me know if you want me to send it your way.

I always liked a friends single shot rolling block in 219 Zipper. Pretty easy to load, 30/30 cases easy to find. Good varmint cartridge that also killed a few deer in its day.

I reload 45 Colt, but under current conditions, I've started to use the boxes of 22 LR that have sat, neglected, in my storage closet. I forgot how much fun 22 LR can be in rifles, revolvers, and pistols. Those boxes of 500 - 22 LR cartridges were about $15 when purchased some years ago.

I remember the days when .22LR was $.50/box. When the last ammo shortage eased I bought a full case of Aguila Super Extra at about $.10/rd so I'm pretty well set. I've also got a couple cans of reloading powder that are probably 20-25 years old.
