Are there any folks out there who collect early Bluegrass Unlimited Magazines? I’m wondering what the reasonable value might be for them. I’ve got some from 1968 up to the 1970’s I think…Great reading them again. A bluegrass history lesson for anyone wanting to get a view of what was being talked about back then. Just re-read a great article on “Finishing Acoustic Instruments” by Benny Cain from the March, 1968 issue… My friend Fred Geiger ran an ad in this issue offering a reward for the return of his TB-5 flathead Mastertone. Still hate to read that. I forget if he ever got it back? Need to call him on it. Great player.
1978 Doc Watson front cover...our band "Old Truck" page 6...I was the banjo player...Bob Reese....and still picking here in Florida.
When I tried to sell a collection of Bluegrass Unlimited magazines a few years back, I found no interest and wound up giving them away at the Free Table at the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshops.
Gotta find someone who is more interested in the history rather than what is happening today. I have a few collections that I'm awaiting for someone to love.
if you decide to just give them away, I'm in Danville Va and would be happy to take them off your hands!
I held on to the first 40 years and then had to give them away. Since then I gave them away as I read them. Since the recent change of ownership, in my judgement the magazine has gone down hill and is in the re-cycling bin almost on the same day that I receive it. I don't think I will be keeping up my subscription.
I do still have a pile of "Frets" magazine though.
I bought some here on the hangout a few months ago. Here is the original listing. I paid a total of $30.50, including shipping, for 42 issues. I thought it was a pretty good deal.
