Can anyone tell me anything about this banjo? It has been in my friends closet for over 40 years.
Serial number is hard to read but looks like 38273 - 651.
Sorry, the pictures didn't upload. It is a Framus banjo. I'll try to attach the damn photos again!
Other than this was made in West Germany in the 1950s/60s, I don't know. Others will be able to fill you in better. But the bridge placed incorrectly and will not be in tune. Take the measurement from the nut to the 12th fret, and use that measurement from the 12th fret to the banjo head will tell you where the bridge should be located. Good luck.
The back of the headstock will have a long code, the last 3 digits should be 2 numbers for the year , & an alphabetical/ letter stamp for the month. (Your pics seem to show a fairly early model)
Your instrument may be from 1965.

Just trying to be helpful.
Went to your home page, clicked on MEDIA,clicked on a picture, clicked on COPY IMAGE LINK, came back here, clicked on RICH TEXT, clicked on the icon that looks like a little portrait of a couple mountains (A picture!!), pasted the Image Link into the URL box, and here's what the results look like:
I had one almost identical to that although the 'flange' was different. I suspect your is called 'the Standard'.
