Hi, if this is better off somewhere else mods, my apologies please could you move this to the appropriate page.

Looking for a supplier of single Nylon strings for banjo here in the UK. Just realising what a big hole Andybanjo.com has left in our little corner of the market.

Any suggestions?

Cheers from Bill.

Eagle Music and Brown Dog Banjos are both located in England. I don't know if they have what you are looking for but they are two possibilities to check out.

I get my strings from Clifford Essex. Can't remember if they do singles.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Mark, neither of those stock Nylon singles, but many thanks anyway.
Andrew, do you have a website address? I found a couple of little web pages this morning, but couldn't find a sales department.
Cheers from Bill.

It's hard to find the site. I don't think they do a whole range of singles.

Perhaps it's make your own time with fishing line of the right gauge.

Hi Graham, many thanks, they do have quite a few different sizes if you click the products listing. Looks like a go-er!
Cheers from Bill.

Metal or plastic.. if you need to change one string, you need to change them all.

I recently purchased singles from Strings Direct - you can buy D'Addario Pro-Arte Classic nylon strings in different gauges (they are marketed for guitar but fine for banjo of course!):https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/single-strings-c810/classical-guitar-c815/daddario-nyl-pro-arte-classics-nylon-treble-single-string-022-p13921/s14832

Ordered them and they arrived the next day, great service.

Because strings get tired and worn; repeated contact with frets creates microscoping flattening and the strings no longer vibrate as cleanly as they do when new. And their sound changes so subtly over time that we generally don't notice it until a fresh set is on the banjo and the sound wakes up again. Unless there's a mechanical reason that a string breaks (e.g., a sharp edge at tuner or tailpiece), popping a string is usually a sign that it's been too long since you switched out.

Carrie, Skip, Graham, Mark, Andrew, thanks for the info and links, will probably try them all in the future.
Cheers from Bill.
