This weekend is the annual Beer Camp!!! One of my best friends and a guy I worked with since 1995 has a nice camp but he and his brothers that inherited the camp don’t hunt , but they hold an annual Beer Camp instead of the Yooper Deer camp!!! Trust me, these guys are born and raised Yoopers but just have no interest in hunting. Just as much fun but no fresh meat!!! Well, I’ve been invited and going since 1995 and this year my son is going for the first time!!! I am completely excited and terrified at the same time, because when he and I get together without mom and his wife it is a regular ship show!!!
My son knows a few of these guys at camp , which is actually the 43’d annual Beer camp and this will be his first time , which usually includes initiations !!! Maybe waking up with your leg in a cast or face painted or hair or beard trimmed or sleeping in da outhouse or a permanent sharpie beard and mustache !!! Nobody ever harmed , but might have some explaining to do when they get home!!!
We eat, drink , sit around the fire and tell lies , shoot guns, fish the pond, eat more, drink more , laugh so damn hard your whole face is sore, hit the sauna, (Finnish sauna) cook great food and then we do it all over again!!!
Probably gonna get our first snow this weekend too, which we’re OK with. It’s time!!!
This is one of the highlights of my year and well needed and am looking forward to seeing my old friends, celebrating tradition, and meeting some new friends, along with watching my son make an ass out of himself trying to keep up with us old farts!!! LOL!!!
Don’t worry, we have each other’s backs!!! LMAO
Slammer!!!

That sounds like a great time Slammer! I spent lots of good times in hunting/fishing camps & cottages in southern Ontario.

All ages & everyone looking for a chance to eat, drink ,fish, hunt & party! I know about the sore face from laughing.

I have lots of crazy stories most people wouldn't believe. Safety must be enforced!

As long as no banjos are harmed, GO for it.
Will banjos and singing be a portion of the shared joy?

Out of the whole bunch, I’m the only one semi - musically inclined!!! I’ve played at beer camp many a time and they seem to enjoy it and surprised I have a hidden talent .
I’m always amused when I hand them a banjo to hold for the first time and they can’t believe how heavy they are!!!

Enjoy, for sure. I used to be a part of such a debaucherous gathering, or two. Such fun! Brad

Sounds like our old deer/ beer camp, except we staggered out at 4 in the morning towards the woods after falling down somewhere or if lucky making it to a sleeping bag sometime late at night, or early morning,

Somehow we managed to get deer in the freezer though

back in the day of leaving work Friday afternoon, showing up with two cases of beer and a half gallon of jim beam and a 12 pack of coke and running out of booze before you got home Sunday afternoon and still being able to function at work Monday morning........youth

On a lot of duck hunts, i would say

Nuthin better than watching the sun come up, ducks landing in the decoys and having a mixed drink in your hand

So, How in the H did any of us survive such weekends or weeks, with all the mandatory guns and beer and whisky, and no time to be home?
I look back, and there were many times events and situations happened that defy odds of living.

Brad, I turned 50 at the weekend and spent Sunday afternoon enjoying a long leisurely boozy pub lunch followed by a lovely bottle of Chateau Neuf Du Pape when I got home.  It took me until lunchtime on Monday to haul my self out of bed, and then my sorry arse only made it as far as the sofa for the rest of the day.

You need to start drinking now to get your immune system up so you don’t get hurt from drinking too much over the weekend

I remember the days, and like Brad said, its a wonder how we survived, not from the alcohol itself, but from what it got us into.

We had a little Duracraft B model boat, if you don’t know what that is, its a small 14 ft narrow aluminum boat, deep v in the front, almost round like a barrel at the back, i think they are rated for an 18 or may be 20 hp, we had races with them as well as being great river running duck boats, they turn on a dime and you get 9 cents change, the faster you go, the tighter they can turn, anyway, B model duracraft with a built more solid transom and a 40 hp johnson with 60 hp reeds and carbs, would run about 65 mph straight out, but it’s a river and back water boat, fun times.

I think it was W.C. Fields that said ….. I’ve spent half my money on alcohol and wild women, the other half I’ve wasted.

Must of been good as it took me 3 days to recover to feeling normal (normal for me) again. Tired mostly as I’m not used to the late nights and sleeping in da bunk house with a bunch of snoring , coughing, farting guys!!!
We ate good, drank our fill and had a hell of a time. Lots of target shooting, card playing and more drinking!!! All good and nobody got hurt!!!
This was the first time my son came to beer camp, age 35 and will NOT be his last.
This was a good primer for hunting camp which starts in less than 2 weeks. Ouch!!!

Sound like a great weekend!  I had my 50th a couple of weeks back and took the next day off work to take the wife out into the countryside for the day - didn't make it out of bed til lunchtime and only got as far as the sofa for the rest of the day.

Looks like we may be hunting at the same time - I'll need to get a number from you so we can see who scores first!!

Then there are the married guys who get the hunting clothes together to trash them in the nearest mud & dirt (to fool thier spouses) before spending the time partying in the camp . Ha , I don't think they were fooling anyone !
