My favourite version of Cousin Sally Brown is this;
youtube.com/watch?v=7y1OP9Dttco

The musicianship is in my opinion superb!

Banjo tuning is A modal.

There are some very subtle chords used throughout his playing of the tune.

Any advice, comments or TAB, particularly related to the chords, for this particular version would be appreciated. I am fairly confident with the melody from listening to the recording.

Thanks in advance.

Kristian is an excellent player, and he's playing one of his dad's wonderful banjos.

And welcome back, QldPicker. That's an interesting profile pic.

On this TOTW from early this year there are some good versions and tabs that may help you, even if it is not exactly the same version: https://www.banjohangout.org/archive/372235

I originally learned that version from Kristien's playing. It's truly wonderful, IMO. That said he deviates in the B part from the tune. I like what he does there, but it doesn't work in the context of a jam. In fact there is another video from Clifftop I think where he's jamming on the tune with Rachel Eddy and others. If you watch careful you can see him try that variation and see how it clashes. Still, I love his style.
As a side note, I ordered a Bonefaas banjo several years back because this video gave me an impression that the sound could be rich. I was sorely disappointed. His banjos are designed to have more thump than melody. Mine went so overboard with that it was just dead. I ended up selling it.

There is something quite mesmerising about his rendition. Your version is superb also Stephen! One of MY ABSOLUTE HATES OF Old Time and Bluegrass, is the playing of tunes at break-neck speed where the beauty of the music is often lost due to the ego of the player or players. Playing at speed can be OK IF the player is a virtuoso.

Kristian plays at a perfect tempo that demonstrates the beauty of the music.

Further research brought this to light;

It definitely has something worth exploring from my perspective.
