The thread on salt got me thinking about potato chips. I like plain ripple chips best, but I'll eat other kinds if I have to. My wife likes kettle chips best, sometimes with flavourings, but she'll also have the plain ones.

We are Costco members, so we always have several huge bags of different kinds in the pantry. I know they aren't the best nutritionally speaking, but we just can't help ourselves.

I could have chips for lunch every day.

Ruffles are hard to beat, crunchy, good for something to chew on, strong enough for dipping if you want to, just a good all around tater chip

My favorites are tostidos tortilla chips with a hint of lime and salt i eat salsa with those I also like kettle brand salt and vinegar that is about the only ones i like

I make my own salsa but i have to make two different batches because the batch i make for myself is way to spicy for my wife the store bought salsas just are not hot enough for me

my salsa recipe is 4-5 cans of rotelo, fresh diced up tomatoes, two diced up white onions, 4-5 extra hot hatch green chili's which i purchase a 50 pound bag every year and roast and then freeze in freezer bags  , the hottest jalapenos i can find and there is a way to tell which ones are going to be hot, i also add cans of diced jalapenos and green chili's and cilantro, i then put it in the fridge and let it get cold eat the next day the more days you let it sit in the fridge the hotter it becomes forgot i also add 2-3 cans of stewed tomatoes

When i was a kid the chip section at the grocery store was small, pretty much rippled, smooth, corn, pork skins, and may be a couple of other odd ball flavors we never got, now there are so many options and flavors it takes both sides of the isle and the end caps to get them all on display, many many options now

Also like ruffles style chips and usually want my potato chips to taste like potatoes and prefer the plain version.
BUT! I have lately discovered "crack in a bag"------Voodoo Chips!  Dang, I cannot help but finish off the entire bag.

Tons of good chips out there. Some of my favorites are made by Utz.

For Potato chips I like Salt and Vinegar. I like Late July chips for dipping in Salsa, and their "hint of lemon" chips for dipping in Salsa Con Queso. Voodoo chips look tempting, but I ain't never gonna pay $33 for a bag of potato chips. It would cut into my Single Malt budget.

banjo bill-e and @ banjos-n-beer-boy I have never even heard of those brands out here in Arizona but they do sound interesting to say the least

DC5 Me neither but the 50.99 that's for 12 bags that's a little over $4 per bag which is the typical price per bag here for decent chips now the Zapps voodoo chips that.s a little steep 33.10 for four bags they better be dang good chips  LOL

Fries for me. Beets, parsnips, yam/sweet potato, carrots, even potato. @375, takes 3 mins 30 sec.
Preseasoned coating is nice but gets the oil cooked too fast.
Another excuse to play with my salt collection.

Chips? Probably the julienne "Hickory Sticks" potato fry smoked chip things. "Shoe-lace" some were called.

I've never ordered any chips online and they are much cheaper at the grocery. the Voodoo flavor was *supposedly* the result of a spill at the factory where the Salt and Vinegar spices got mixed with some of the BBQ flavor spices and they liked the result. Whatever the real story, that is exactly what they taste like; S&V with a BBQ flavor that is both hot and sweet.

When you sit on them, they are microchips.

When I was a kid there were only about 4 different chips to choose from. Old Dutch, Jays, A local company , Shoe String Potatoes ( big can of em) and Ruffles with ridges. Chip dip was a real treat and nothing went better with dip than Ruffles !!! Old Dutch were and still are my favorite regular potato chip, but Ruffles still have the same old taste I remember as a kid !!!
Then I remember when Pringles arrived . How cool were they!!! Google the history of Pringles or watch the documentary of them……..pretty amazing and interesting !!!
Aldi brand Clancy makes a pretty damn fine chip for 1/2 the price as all of them. Big fan of their sour cream and onion and their BBQ flavored chips.
Damn all of you……..now I have to make a trip to town to get chips to go with my cocktails before my Friday Fish Fry !!!

Just curious if anyone has heard of Laura Scutters potato chips? They were the first chips that I can remember as a child and it seems that she was the first to ever sell bagged chips.

I don’t eat chips that often but when I do..is there a brand of DOS XX chips... seriously I prefer thin chips from our local Mexican Restaurant with salsa. Now finding a good salsa that’s the problem. I prefer my salsa warm. Uncle Alberts is good but is it still made?

Well, just some cheap (actually cheap) ORGANIC Corn Chips with high salt. Pretty good tasting, and after eating just a few, you feel refilled.
You can buy them at Costco, I think.

My favorite chip has changed their recipe over the years, I think they switched oil. It was Troyer Farms, a local producer when I lived in PA as a kid. I don't like the new style like I did the old. Gibbles were always good. Again, the oil. I believe they used peanut oil. My local IGA sells a brand called Uncle Ray's that are actually a northern made chip that are pretty good. And then there's all the others, I'll eat just about any chip you put in front of me.

I like the plain ripple chips, too, but Fritos are my favorite type of chip. Please, don't give me those flavored chips, I'll add my own flavor with salsa and dips. Dave liked the salt and vinegar potato chips and so we had to buy two different kinds of chips so we'd both be happy.
