Got a chance to buy one, used.
Figured that since there are over  134,000 Outhangers, some of you probably have or had one, and could speak with

The Voice of Experience.

That's the ugliest shade of GREEN I've ever seen. Will you be okay driving that thing around for the whole neighborhood to see? I suppose you could always paint it.

Technical Data about this tractor: TractorData.com Cub Cadet LT1046 tractor information

My advice: When buying a used lawn tractor, understand that you will need to buy parts for it eventually. How easy is it to get parts for this tractor? Can you buy Cub Cadet parts easily? Does Cub Cadet still exist as an actual manufacturing company? (Hint: no and no)

Pre-1981 Cub Cadets are good equipment. Post-1981 Cub Cadet is MTD. It's not a real company, it's just a marketing label/brand. It's the same tractor as about a dozen other brands. In banjo terms, it's the "PacRim import" of the lawnmower world (I guess MTD would be Daewon in this analogy).

I've got a 2004 GT235 I'll sell you. 550 hours on it. 48C deck and a 42" single stage snowblower.

WOW!
A perfectly good excuse to meet another OutHanger.

PM me your asking price and the name of some nearby village, so I can calculate the trip and work it into my schedule.

I used to work for MTD , in their Kitchener , Ontario plant. Boxed hundreds of Cub Cadets at the end of the assembly line,,,, back in 1988-89.  Dependable ?  Dunno.

As one may see from the map, the "Driftless area"  is several thousand square miles, slathered in Pepto-Bismol..

No not Daewon who actually made banjos and some decent ones. More like perhaps Washburn or. over here, Barnes and Mullins.

i got a 2011 1046 with a kohler ,,, dad used it 3 years on 1 1/2 acres and then i got it and been mowing 1 3/4 acres (some of it rough) with it since. replaced blades twice and changed oil,oil filter and air filter, and bypassed the seat safety switch,,,thats it.

note: do not get it in a lean too severe to the right with the kohler ,,, it will blow oil smoke like a bug sprayer. other then that its been a good machine. and you can get parts forit pretty easy,,alot of them cross over to other MTD brands plus there is a cadet website that has everything for it.

True about the bug sprayer, we had one, engine and top part worked great, the deck was our problem, couldn't hardly keep belts on it, when it got into semi thick grass, the deck belt would come off.

tried several different belt pulley set up to change it that you tube posters said would help, still never cured the trouble, but did make it a little better

The only thing you really need to be worried about is what kind of engine it has. A Kohler or Briggs are good and parts are available and if you need to replace the engine there are plenty of replacement units available that bolt right on.
Now if it is cheap enough then run it until the engine starts to make strange noises and dies then sell it for scrap. Sometimes a used unit is cheap enough to become a throw away when it dies.

We had one and a friend had one, we both had troubles with the deck, there were plenty of remedies for it on google too, could have just been a bad lot of them, or an early design that was fixed in later production
