I have a set of fairly new tuners which will not hold the note and and when tightened will 'jerk' slightly when put up to pitch. I have read that a leather washer placed on the shaft will help to solve this problem. Which part of the shaft do I put the leather washer? See attached photos.

Don't see a photo.

Washer goes between button and metal cap at base of shaft. Object is to add something with more friction for the button to bear on.

So remove button, slip washer over shaft, reinstall button.

Might not be the tuner. Make sure the strings are not binding in the nut.
