Saw this in a local Craigslist ad.

I have zero connection to the ad or the person, but I’m sure someone who collects vintage instrument catalogs will find something of interest.

I miss the music stores, pawn shops, flea markets, estate sales, and newspaper classifieds from '81 when I bought my first vintage guitar, a '60 Fender Musicmaster for nothing at a pawn shop at 17. It's hard to imagine used gear prices from then as being real but they were, and hundreds of stories of unbelievable deals emerging from music store backroom repair shops, underneath crates at flea markets, and so on. I would drive for days, creating music store, pawn, and antique
mall archive lists from pages torn from phone books. It was amazing. And I'm certain it was even more amazing in the decades before my adventures. That guy's sitting on a few thousand dollars in catalogs. What I love is he seems completely genuine about selling them as case candy. I know that's the largest trove of rocknroll related music catalogs I've ever seen appear out of nowhere in the 40 years I've been playing and trading. I assume his story about the shop and storing them away is true. Pretty amazing find all together! Thanks for posting

Mark,

Yep. Miss dropping into a stray city or off hiway town years ago before the internet and looking into the yellow pages for small music stores and what we called then, “Hock-shops”. Kind of like “American Pickers” 30-40 years before anyone heard of them. . Pulled some amazing deals. Unheard of today . What my Brothers and I still talk about is the stuff we passed on because then we felt they had little or no value, or we were short 5 or 10 bucks. Oh well....can’t go back in time and I feel very blessed to still have some of the great deals I scored decades ago.

This hoard of old catalogues kind of reminds me of back then. - “ You want those old things? , Just take them...”
