I know there's been a few posts up here about peghed tuners so hopefully someone can help. I bought a peghed fifth tuner but it doesn't seem to turn -AT ALL. It appears seized - is there something I'm missing? Some adjustment? The postage cost was pretty much the same as the tuner so there's not much sense in posting the tuner back. Has anyone else had a problem like this? And can anyone help?
Do you have it installed?
The turning force required can be adjusted by pushing or pulling the button. Perhaps it's possible to push the button in until it wont turn, I don't know, but its worth a try if you haven't already done so.
It needs to be screwed in. It’ll work as designed after it meets the proper resistance. It’s not something that can be turned in your hands using your fingers.
The gearing of pegheds tuners firms up when you push the tuner in like a violin peg.
I would try holding the threaded portion of the tuner with a vice or pliers with thick leather around the threads and pull the knob away from the pliers while twisting. If that does it, great. If not, then you still have defective peg.
Pegheds tuners are a great invention, but they are not without their quirks. I was fussing with one just now that seems to have a hiccup at the G note. And the knob was not fit well, so there was significant play.
Thank you all!
I tried fixing it in a bench vise and got it moving! There's rubber on the vise clamp so the peg was protected. See photo.
The more the peg was withdrawn from the housing the easier it turned.
