So we're sitting there with the sound on, and the  closed captions on.

Somebody is sneaking up on the Good Guys, and the caption says

(Ominous music)

So I said "Omnibus music???" and I start singing

"The wheels on the bus go ROUND and ROUND"

And suddenly, it's not so scary!

Myself and my girlfriend watch a lot of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Thai Dramas and shows of all genres. Most are captioned or subtitled, some are dubbed. We watch these because nothing worthwhile is on American TV, and nothing worthwhile is coming out of Hollywood anymore except cartoon movies. Still, it can be worth a good chuckle now and then, when they translate wrong, or the caption posted is totally hilarious.

What's Up Tiger Lilly? is a movie made by Woody Allen in the mid-Sixties (the Lovin' Spoonful are in it, briefly). He simply took a Japanese spy/crime movie and replaced the soundtrack dialogue with his own - and not a translation. The effect is, well, shall we say, not what the original producers intended.

My favourite. Mel Brookes in Space Balls in a cinema in Paris. English soundtrack. French subtitles. Character says "I'm off to play with my putz". Subtitle "Je vais jouer au golf". Me and an American at th other end of th theatre laughed. The locals looked at us as if we'd gone mad.

I too use to make up lines when I sang Wheels on the Bus to my kids.

The bum on the bus says Give me some money... give me some money... give me some money.

I do this all the time, making up words to songs. Its quite hilarious when the grand kids catch on and remind me, "That's NOT how that song goes..."

Has anyone here turned off the sound on old movies, taken the part of a character and made up your own dialog? Totally hysterical.

Sounds like fun - like it could be a party theme.

When I was courting the Mrs,. we were watching a made-for-TV movie about a comet that obliterated Phoenix. Arizona (Phoenix - gonna rise from the ashes, get it?). At the end, when Phoenix is flattened, I said, "I never really liked Phoenix, anyway."

I can't say that today, since I'm on a weekly open-mic from Phoenix now.
