Couldn't possibly be Chuck ..... Sarazen had his double eagle in 1935 ..... Thompson's homer in 1951.

Incidentally, I had the pleasure of having breakfast with Sarazen in 1975 (40 years after the double eagle) in the clubhouse of the Augusta National on Wednesday of Master's Tournament Week.  25 years after the breakfast with him, the same day of the week, at about the same hour, I ran into him at the Holiday Inn in Augusta.  He was a real gentleman.  He told us some great stories during breakfast.

According to Fig though ..... we are both wrong!sad

Is Sly Old Al  hinting at something to do with somebody's cousin's friend?

I thought it referred to the JFK assassination...

I'm glad the current fella's name is short, because its gonna make googling it with my fingers crossed just a little bit easier.

Originally from a poem by Ralph "Where's Waldo" Emerson

CONCORD HYMN

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,

their flag to April's breeze unfurled,

Here once the embattled famers stood,

And fired the shot heard 'round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;Alike the conqueror silent sleeps; And Time the ruined bridge has swept Down the dark stream which seaward creeps. On this green bank, by this soft stream, We set to-day a votive stone; That memory may their deed redeem, When, like our sires, our sons are gone.Spirit, that made those heroes dare To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee" ==============================

So,  we've got rude farmers, raising shafts, creeping streams, and one shot, back around 1776.

Two hundred years later, in 1976, a secret NASA mission put six Holstein calves into low earth orbit.

It was the herd shot 'round the world!   cheeky

My news source, The Onion, doesn't give me any clues about what you're talking about.
