Howdy guys! Just found this site and am so stoked to be here. Thanks in advance.

I'm completely new to the banjo world. Have wanted to try for years but just didn't have the time. I'm not stranger to a harmonica, but strings surely intimidate me. I can play around on a ukulele but that is about it.

Anyway, grabbed a Gold Tone CC-50 just to start with and want to attach a strap to it. I'm awful at holding a string instrument and trying to play at the same time!

Can I get some advice on how to attach a strap to one? Are there specific banjo straps, or could I just buy a guitar strap and go from there?

I already ordered Dan Levenson's "From Scratch" book and am patiently awaiting its arrival. Thanks yall!

Gold Tone and Deering both make a strap that works with banjos where the tension hooks are really close to the pot. Full thickness leather straps will not fit between the hooks and the pot.  Lighter duty straps are no problem because the AC banjo is incredibly light: Gold Tone Strap

Thanks for the response Brian. I had seen this one on Sweetwater and adored the pattern - think this would fit an AC-1?

edit: now that Ive done some more reading, I'm not sure I want a strap with the metal clips. Is there a type/name of a strap that would fit a Gold Tone AC-1? Would a cradle strap surely not fit?

Sorry to double post - found this one that has a nice looking pattern but similar design to what you showed me from Gold Tone, Brian. I think I'll try this one out!

Thanks for your sage advice

Wise choice, as the leather tabs will be much gentler on the finish of your banjo. In the future, avoid the straps with the metal "hooks".

I have a similarly designed strap on my first banjo, a GT CC-OT, which is the one Brian suggested and it works great. One end of the strap goes "above" the tailpiece and the other "below" the neck. Or, as I think of it, 4 and 10 o'clock. The strap under the neck helps balance out what is probably a neck heavy banjo.

Welcome the the HO, by the way.

Mispoke earlier - I have a CC-50, not an AC-1. Sorry! We were deciding between the two when I purchased
