You have begun my search for an old violin I bought 16 years ago for my daughter. Not broken, just sounded bad. I was told it needed a new sound post. I believe it was full size. Ended up renting a 3/4 for her instead. I will keep you informed.

Bump....
Still lookin....
A viola might be better...as it is a little larger...

I would also take a poke at larger CIGAR box type of boxes..

Or...tin cans...that might be sutable....

Thanks in advance...

Hey Fig,

I've located my daughter's fiddle. She had it and is not giving it up.

It is a 3/4 and might've been too small for your use.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Back when I used to jam a lot (now hardly at all!) I had a Buddy that wanted to get into music.

He said he was at a party & a guy was playing a 4 string guitar & was interested in it. He said it was tuned the same as the bottom strings of a regular guitar. I started out on guitar & always called higher strings the top strings & wondered how you could make chords like that on the lower strings.

Years later I was looking at ukuleles & was thinking about a baritone uke. I was looking it up & it said it was tuned the same as a tenor guitar! Then BOOM!!! It hit me!! I"M AN IDIOT !!!

It's tuned D G B E ! The top strings! Chicago Tuning!!!

I could have so easily helped him out with all the chord charts & books at the time! I still kick myself when i think of it!

I have seen a cool cigar box guitar made with an old gas can that said GAS on it. Do you have a neck already?

It shouldn't be too hard to find or make a box for the body. It would be cool with a viola body.

For a little drift .. Every time I see your thread title it reminds me of a nice lady that was a member here Brokenstrings. Jessica Wolff. She was a mod for a while I believe, one of our members that have passed on.

I eather make the necks or repurpose them from junk or discarded instrawmints..

Mostly tune in an open tuning..
Old gas n motor oil one gallon cans make great geartars...

Look'em up on youtube... :0)

Turpentine cans work too... ;0)
