Do some of you find the standard nut slot widths are just a hair too close together? Whenever I get a banjo with a nut slotted to prewar specs I always shape a new nut to accommodate this. My neck is a hair wider than other necks and that’s the way I wanted it. I got the neck from Tim Davis. He did a good job with it. But my left hand fingers just do better if I widen the nut even on that neck. I notice it most on the 4th string.
Does anyone else widen out the nut slots?
Those Pre-war slot specs are crazy as far as I'm concerned. Needlessly narrow.
My old sociology prof would say people were smaller in those days. Not as well fed. Especially country folk.
