And this, my friends, is why my skeptic tank is always full to overflowing.

I wonder if you're missing the point which seems to be how gullible the uninformed are.

I doubt that such a level of ignorance is confined to the young.

A fellow I knew ONLY through an internet chat room forwarded to me an e-mail from someone who HE knew, forwarded from someone THAT guy knew, about how he knew somebody whose house caught fire, and the insurance investigator told the house fire guy that [a specific brand of] plug-in air fresheners was the NUMBER ONE cause of house fires in the U.S.A.

Since both their addresses were on what I got, I replied to them, and everybody else I could, that

1. I had been a Fire Prevention Inspector for over a quarter of a century, and NONE of the training sessions included that information.

2. Pretty much every time a house burns, an insurance company has to pay out money.

So, it would be in their best interest to include that information in the little newsletters they send, EVERY F[intercourse]ING MONTH, with the bills.

It would be inconceivably expensive for the makers of [a specific brand of] plug-in air fresheners to pay such a HUGE bribe  to every insurance company to let their product cause the companies to pay and pay and pay, without warning  anybody.

That, dear Hawker, is a FINE example of gullibility of the uninformed, of which I am well aware.

Your example is the point. But I'm not matching this with yoiur skepticism. I'm not a skeptic about nonsense that the gullible believe because there is no need.

Anyone know if that stuff is on the California Prop 65 list?

Hey, Im a high-schooler! We are pretty gullible, but only when we find someone who knows how to pronounce the scientific word of pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a real term.

I can pronounce it and I know what it means... and have since long before I was a ninth-grader.

It’s what killed the Pompeiians.

It is also a contrived word.

The problem is often caused by viscosity bubbles.
