When I went from 5-string to 4-string I tried that tuning.

The chords don't sound good because of the octave D strings.

That's why nobody uses it... except maybe if you are playing with a bottleneck or a slide...

Hmmm, Carlo, I had never heard that before but after looking at several of Sean’s youtube videos, it sure looks as though you are absolutely correct… DGBD tuning!

Do you know the English colloquial expression “If I’m wrong, I will eat my my hat.”…?

That sound you hear...? that is me eating my hat!

Carlo,
When you listen to Perry Bechtel, Buddy Wachter, Lee Floyd, Scotty Plummer, Ken Aoki, Doug Mattocks, and Brad Roth all play plectrum, you're hearing the C G B D tuning. (Eddie Peabody also used the same interval tuned up one whole step.)
And all the instruction available for plectrum uses that tuning.
If you're reasonably new to the plectrum, here's a blog that has some useful information. https://www.banjohangout.org/blog/34982

I hope you can find a plectrum banjo teacher in Italy, Carlo.

But you are still luckier than us old guys who started playing in the pre-internet days, because nowadays there are Skype lessons and of course so much great playing to immerse yourself in.

Here’s a player I really like… Dave Marty…
