All I can say is that I would hate to have to tune that...
Deerings are good quality instruments. Still being made. Prices range from low priced to extreme high.
Folks will chime in here in this one. You can also reach out to Deering directly and they will provide you with info.
On this particular instrument, I have zero idea. Your Father had a very diverse collection.
if this helps, here is a retired ad from Banjo Buyer with a similar instrument:

The Deluxe is one of the models that became the current Sierra.
Old Deering ads showed David Hidalgo of Los Lobos playing one.
This is a 12-string guitar-banjo, I would think.
If anyone has the old, full color Deering catalog, there should be a page on this and the Hidalgo picture. My copy is in a box in storage.
Perhaps Janet could make it available online the way that Ome/ODE catalogs are. Since many of the Deering models changed names over the years, it would be a great resource.
In any case, the Deering Standard, Deluxe and Black Diamond were the models that became the Sierra. This is a 12 String Deluxe and was heavily advertised in magazines such as Guitar Player back in the day. Weird that I cannot find a copy of that ad online.
