Hi everyone. I'm looking to buy a new openback but will continue playing fingerstyle. I just want a more mellow, woody tone that I can't get from my RK.
I've been looking at the gambler banjo by clifford essex and wondered if any of you have had the chance to play it and what you thought.
I have seen they are making the Gambler again but there aren't any sound files/videos that I've seen. UK member, Mike Moss, has some sound-files of their Weaver model which has a wooden tone-ring on his page. I have an original Clifford Essex with the wooden tone-ring which is in the classifieds with a video - that will give you an idea of the wood tone-ring sound (but with nylon strings).
sharesum: first welcome to the hangout.
I think she has your answer.
