Hi all!

My wife and I are fairly musical but we've mostly played folk, classical, and Celtic stuff. My main instrument is the guitar, and hers is the flute and ukulele. We've always loved bluegrass music and we wanted to start playing together more, and thought a banjo and guitar would be a great start.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello! Before becoming a member here the forum was a great resource in researching what we wanted in a banjo and I thought I could glean even more from it if I became a member.

Looking forward to my banjo musical journey here!

Welcome! Be sure to buy one of the cheapest banjos available : - ) I have found that they can sometimes produce the best sounds, but you will have to experiment.

Hm, I indicated my state when I was setting up my profile. Maybe I need to include the city for it to show up on my posts. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm in the Nashville area, by the way!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes!

That is really poor advice.  Get the best banjo you can afford.  A quality banjo is much easier to learn on than a cheap banjo.  There has been far more beginners discouraged by a cheap banjo than by a good one.

Haha, I thought it was sarcasm, but maybe I was wrong. Currently have my fingers crossed for a seller to accept an offer I made on an RK-R35.

Welcome Nathan, remember it is the journey, not the destination that is valuable.

welcome and good luck with the RK-35,,they are good banjos.
there is a wealth of knowledge on the BHO,, look over some of the sarcasm that floats around here sometimes. but all in all its a very helpful website fro someone looking to go deep into banjo styles of all kinds. BTW i am a BIG fan of celtic music,,, my bucket list is to tour ireland and scotland one day just for the music and a round at st andrews.

Count me in! haha

It's a pretty niche genre so I'm always glad to find another person who enjoys and/or plays it!

Do you play Celtic music on the banjo or otherwise, or do you prefer to listen?

a few tunes but mostly just listening and marveling at the level of talent some of these guys have... it is a joy to hear them and being of some irish heritage its almost like it speaks to me from the past.  sounds weird but thats the vibe i get when i hear it.
