Hi guys! Was just wondering how the pinches on the first 2 strings change in pitch on the 2nd pinch. On the tab in the Earl Scruggs book it just states the same pinch 3 times but on the recordings the pitches sound different could someone please help?

A scrugg greater than I likely has the answer, but I’d bet the variation in pitch you are hearing is from slight left-hand changes (i.e. string pressure, neck pressure, a slight choke, etc.). Play along with the recording until you match what you’re hearing. In my opinion, it’s the subtleties you are describing that really set players apart.

The bass is moving behind it
