I bought a Ludwig banjo this morning that has 3 things you rarely if ever see. The original planet tuners,a perfectly shaped brass top tension flange and a Bob George bridge.
Bob was a well known repairman in the KC area and he actually worked this banjo over in June of 1985 and he left his little sticker inside the resonator. I believe he refinished and refretted the neck,it looks great while the resonator is showing it’s 95 years.
The thing that really got my attention was the masterfully fashioned bridge. There’s even a description of it in the case, pictured here. I had planned to flip the banjo but it’s so rare to find a Ludwig without zinc pest that I think I might keep it.
I’ll post more pics when I get it cleaned up a little.
The person who made that bridge was very, very good. It is something to see.
Yea. And that one is number 221. Bobs been gone a while but I’m surprised I’ve not seen one before.
