Hi, I’ve been having a clear out and have come across this old wooden banjo. I’m interested to find out what make it is, how old it is and if it is of any value. Should I restore or sell?
English zither banjo of mid-grade quality. Unless somebody recognises the particular banjo it could have been made by any of the early 20th C mass-producers of these (Windsor, Houghton....). No identifying stamps anywhere ? Value - not much. Very popular in their day so lots of them still around. Not popular for any of the styles commonly played nowadays (even the few players of the Classic banjo styles these were designed for mostly prefer conventional banjos). £100 on a good day. What restoration does it need ? It all seems to be there so no more than a clean and polish required. But if you want to learn banjo then this will work for you. My first banjo, and I only play old-time American traditional style, was a zither. It go me through the early learning stages.
Thanks so much for the information.
