No, but I enjoyed watching it in the Dakar.

They're death traps. I have a quad ATV for work around the homestead, but it's a tool not a toy. I use it to pull logs and other equipment around.

I've never really understood the UTV phenomenon. They're basically just poorly constructed Jeeps. Saw one the other day, 4door, seats 5, does 100mph down the road. But somehow, they're not an automobile? No license plate, no real safety features like on a car. What's the difference? And now they're changing the laws so you can operate them on the main roads. Not to mention, some of them cost over $20k. At that price, why wouldn't you just buy a real 4x4?

I really don't understand how they're not considered to be a standard automobile, as far as I can tell there's no fundamental difference between the two.

Yes.

As for being poorly constructed jeeps, there is nothing more poorly constructed then a jeep.  If you want to go fast and have fun it wouldn't be in a jeep.  These things have come a long ways in suspension and safety.  Last weekend we went out and went over 120 miles seeing some beautiful areas that I would never have seen in a car.

As for riding on the paved roads it is legal here in Arizona as long as the vehicle is legal, including lights and license.  I also have a quad for around the property not for taking out and having fun.

I do. Absolutely brilliant pieces of kit. I’m fortunate that I get a lot of driver training - which I think is so important with any vehicle either on or off road. It’s amazing how a SxS behaves completely differently, with 1, 2, 3 & 4 people in it - you need to drive them differently to suit the payload, not just the conditions. As with any vehicle, they have their limitations and abilities, and in the appropriate conditions, they cannot be surpassed by any other vehicle, be it 4x4, or helicopter. There are situations I wouldn’t use on, but used properly they are definitely very useful vehicles. I love ours.
