I checked out that Internet link. That sure is a pretty banjo. If I were 13 years younger, I might could consider buying one of those.

Notice the date on the marketing text, 2008. Pretty near the last gasp of Gibson banjos.

I think it's a cool idea though. Lots of nice features. Who knows what might have been?

But is it truly a style 5 if it's not a 2pf cast archtop with walnut neck?

Good eye, I can barely see that on my mobile screen.

Gorgeous banjo nonetheless!

Yeah this was during the death throes of Gibson banjos. At the very end they were producing some very nice quality stuff (again, finally) and listing them at prices that were in the ozone, and patting themselves on the back for doing it.

I guess since it's an authentic Gibson, one of the last, they could call it whatever they wanted.

It is a beauty. I love the radiussed fingerboard they threw in there, just because they could? The satin finish on the metal parts is a subtle but really nice detail too.

Just curious banjopa1 ... is this a recent acquisition, or did you pick it up back in the day?

It's a keeper for sure. If I owned something like this, I'd be thrilled too. Thanks for sharing this.

This banjo was developed by Gibson in collaboration with Bernie Leadon, of the Eagles, Flying Burrito Brothers, and other well-known bands.
