Hi Folks,

Recently Gold Tone sent me one of their new OB-3 Twangers and, after some set up, it is a truly incredible lower priced banjo.  Please check out my video review of it to hear this thing in action!

Sure. I redid the coordinator rod connections so that the heel of the neck against the pot was tight (but not too tight) and used the three nuts on the tailpiece end of the rods to set them to neutral.  I feel that most banjos sounds and play their best when the rods are set to neutral.  I loosened and evened out the head tension to slightly below G# (although I'm still experimenting.  I might end up going looser,) brought the tailpiece up to a good height so that it wasn't touching the tension hoop, I put lighter strings on it (GHS JD Crowe studio set as opposed to GT's heavier strings,) and I adjusted the truss rod just a little.  This particular Twanger came with a snuffy smith bridge that was a good match so I ended up using that bridge.  I'm sure I'll keep tinkering on it, but so far it's pretty great.

It didn't take much to make a significant improvement in this banjo.

Just saw your video on YouTube, great! I have a Twanger and despite the not cool make it's so good that I purchased over the newer JD Gold Star or RK 85 elite or 75/76. NB I usually play a Tb2 Pyramid. The Twanger has a bit extra and some depth, plays & looks nice too. Trouble is with owning three good banjos is too much choice so there's always a possibility of a sale until the next croc of gold comes along....????
