I have a 5 string Gibson neck that came from Kalamazoo April of 1975. I measured the width of the original binding on the 5th string side of the neck to be 4/32". The recent replacement binding on the other side of the neck appears to be only 3/32". Where can I purchase the correct binding material for this neck? Is there such a thing? My intent is to have the correct material on hand for the next luthier. Thanks in advance.

The binding is usually put on with taller binding then filed down to the height of the fingerboard. I've done several necks that I made that way.

You would be better off to let the Luthier buy the binding.  That way he can get the right size.  Also a Luthier probably buys binding in bulk which reduces the Haz Mat fee per inch.  The Haz Mat fee is the same if you buy 2 feet of binding or 20 feet of binding.  If you order enough binding to do one side of the neck, the Haz mat fee will probably cost about 3 or 4 times the price of the binding.

I think the hazmat fee is a domestic shipper thing.  I have recently bought cellulose bindings for guitars from the UK, Germany, and eBay land and there were no hazmat fees—the shipping just takes a bit longer (a lot longer from eBay land), but shipping-wise, strips of binding can be rolled up and fit in a small padded envelope as opposed to a box—it was cheaper to have some bindings sent from Germany to Pennsylvania via the German postal system than from Ohio to Pennsylvania, and no hazmat—go figure.
