I am trying to find out who wrote Good News (Chariot's A-Comin'), the one that the Kingston Trio sang. There are apparently other songs with Good News in the name and several groups have recorded this one. I cannot seem to find out who wrote it originally. There is some indication it might be an old Negro spiritual, which means the original author may be long lost.

Thanks

My quick search indicates this may be a tradtional tune.  MOst of the song books and hymnals give credit to the arranger, just as the YouTube video of the Kiongstin Trio's version.

That's what I found as well. Thanks.

Are you related to the David Brooks who writes for the New York Times? He is one of my favorite commentators.

Wow! How did you find that? I searched for everything I could think of.

Thank you very much.

Hi, Cyn. No direct relation to David Brooks, the NY Time4s columnist. I am probably more liberal than he, but I respect his work and try to catch him each Friday on the PBS Newshour.

And I thought a real scholar like Carlb would provide a solid answer for you.
